A former chairman of the town’s Arts Commission is organizing a vigil at the site of the former Shakespeare theater which burned to the ground early Sunday. Ed Goodrich said the purpose of the gathering — scheduled for noon Saturday — will be to rally supporters behind redeveloping the site as a theater. “We’re saying farewell to the old theater but we’re going to usher in a new era,” Goodrich said. “We don’t want the dream to die.” Mayor Laura Hoydick said a claims adjuster working for the town has walked the property, and a specialist in fire causes and origins from the town’s insurance company is scheduled to visit the site Thursday. Hoydick said specific details about the property’s insurance coverage can’t be revealed until after that visit takes place.
