Firefighters responded to a car fire on Atlantic Street early Monday evening, according to officials.
The call for service came in around 5:40 p.m., leading firefighters to a car parked across the street from 492 Atlantic St. off Park Avenue, Fire Chief John Mazza said. The owner of the vehicle that caught fire was sitting in it for a short time before neighbors called out about the danger, Mazza said. Fortunately, the owner was able to escape the vehicle unharmed before flames erupted, officials said.
The engine caught fire, sparking flames, according to Mazza. Before the fire was contained, it had partially spread to the car parked in front of it, melting off the bumper and damaging part of the trunk, Mazza said.
The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office, officials said.
