Three staff members with the Delaware Emergency Management Agency are starting their new year in Puerto Rico, where recovery efforts are still ongoing four months after Hurricane Maria.
The DEMA contingent is expected to spend two-and-a-half weeks on the island. US states including Delaware and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have continued to contribute aid, restore power, and provide assistance in other ways. "DEMA conducts training and exercises dealing with long-term recovery from disasters, but the practical knowledge our three workers will bring home as a result of working in this recovery operation is of incalculable value," DEMA Director A.J. Schall said.
