Five fireworks-related blazes reported in Delaware

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office investigated five incidents involving fireworks during the 24 hour period of July 4, 2018. Three took place in Kent County, Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said. A small outside fire was reported at about 10:09 p.m. in the Granada Mobile Home Park, Magnolia when fountain fireworks ignited material inside a trash dumpster. A second fire took place at about 7:06 p.m. when material from sparklers set grass afire in the rear of a home in the 8000 block of Willow Grove Road, Chionchio said. The third reported blaze took place at 9:17 p.m. in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue, Harrington when sparklers ignited combustible material inside an outside trash can. In New Castle County, a fire took place at 10:37 p.m. in the 1200 block of Pimpernel Path, Shannon Cove, Odessa, when fireworks were thrown away into an outside trash can. The resulting blaze burned the siding off the home, Chionchio said.
