Dover police are probing the death of a city woman who was run over three times.
Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman identified the woman as 40-year-old Moneca Saunders.
Hoffman identified the suspect as Gerald Medkeff of Smyrna.
So far, police say their investigation shows the incident took place at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 in an alley behind New Castle Avenue, Capitol Green. Medkeff allegedly was in the area to buy drugs but tried to leave when several rowdy people came up to his car.
Hoffman said Medkeff put his Mazda 3 sedan, into reverse, striking Saunders and causing her to become wedged under the car.
Medkeff shifted from reverse to forward at least two more times in his attempt to escape but was not successful.
It took firefighters from the Dover Fire Department to free Saunders from under the car, but she died later at Bayhealth Hospital’s Kent Campus.
