A late night house fire killed a family's cat, according to the Lewes Fire Department. The fire broke out shortly before 11 p.m. on Ward Road in Lewes. Firefighters from Rehoboth, Milton, and Indian River assisted Lewes with the blaze, as Slaughter Beach and Georgetown crews covered Lewes' district. According to Lewes Fire Chief Bill Henry Buckaloo, the family inside the home was able to get out safely, but their cat did not. Buckaloo says the Red Cross was called to assist the family.
