County Executive Matthew Meyer announced Monday his decision to renovate the current Medic 5 in Middletown instead of building a new station in Boyd's Corner.
"Using math and data and analyzing historical data as well as looking at future projections, we believe that we're putting it in the right location," said Meyer.
Meyer said more calls come from within a three-mile radius of the station in Middletown than the Boyd's Corner proposed site picked by his predecessor, Tom Gordon, and supported by council members Bill Powers and Bill Bell.
Even though the decision saves the county about $4 million, Meyer said the decision was always about saving lives. Meyer believed the Middletown location is better suited than Boyd's Corner, in part due to traffic concerns.
"Using the current location, it is much easier to get on the new [Route] 301 to go both north and south," said Meyer. "Two of the three [Route] 301 interchanges that they're creating that will be coming in months are closer to the Medic 5 station."
