A 58-foot yacht is severely damaged after hitting a jetty Tuesday evening, just off the Augustine Boat Ramp south of Port Penn. Frank Schoeffler, the fire chief of Port Penn Fire Company, said they were dispatched at 6:35 p.m. after the six stranded on the boat made a distress call over the Coast Guard radio and used their life boat to jump ship. Odessa, Delaware City, Salem County, Delaware State Police and Goodwill all responded to the sinking yacht. A private boat headed toward the victims and threw a dingy overboard to rescue them, Schoeffler said. "Thankfully, someone was nearby to help," Schoeffler said. The six from Minnesota were brought to the boat ramp uninjured, he said. The top of the boat remained above water, only because it was caught on top of the rock wall, Schoeffler said.
