Robert Cartwright and his dog Coco were heading inside for a drink when he opened the door and saw his home was filled with smoke. As firefighters busted out the windows of Cartwright's single-story home on Abbott's Pond Road Wednesday afternoon, the Milford man tried to figure out what had gone wrong. "It happened in 10-15 minutes," he said. "It's just too much right now." Carlisle Fire Company of Milford was assisted by about four other local fire company's to battle the blaze that broke out shortly before 5 p.m. Assistant Chief Ryan Knowles said the scene was cleared in less than an hour and no injuries were reported. His hands black with soot, Cartwright repeated his story to friends and family who rushed to his backyard to make sure he was OK. He had been mowing out front and was planning on changing the oil on the mower when he decided to step inside for a drink. He said that's when he noticed smoke was several feet high inside. He grabbed the hose and his phone and called 911.
