Firefighters extinguished a blaze inside both floors of a vacant home on North Broom Street on Tuesday night. The home, near the intersection of West 4th and North Broom streets, had heavy fire by the time crews responded to the multiple 9-1-1 calls around 9 p.m., said Lieutenant Andrew Cavanaugh of Wilmington Fire Department. Twenty minutes after arriving, firefighters extinguished the flames inside and in the back of the house. No one was inside or injured, Cavanaugh said. The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Between the smoke and fire, the West Side home was damaged significantly.
