A fire that injured a Richardson Park man and displaced him and fellow residents of his apartment building started when the man, who was connected to an oxygen tank, lit a cigarette.
The 69-year-old was lighting up in the living room of his apartment on North DuPont Road in Richardson Park just after midnight Saturday when the oxygen fanned the flame from a lighter, setting fire to the man's robe, Delaware State Fire Marshal's investigators said.
He was able to throw the robe off and run outside and was taken to Christiana Hospital's emergency room.
Damage to the apartment building was estimated at $30,000, and investigators don't know, at this point, when the displaced residents can go back to their apartments.
