First responders in Wilmington were taken to the hospital Thursday after inhaling fentanyl while responding to a drug overdose. An unknown number of Wilmington firefighters and police officers were exposed to the drug while responding to the call in the 1300 block of West Fourth Street, said John Looney of the Wilmington Fire Department. Several agencies, including the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and St. Francis paramedics, responded to the 11 a.m. incident. DNREC was called in to clear the residence, said Sgt. Scott Chaffin of Wilmington police. No further information has been released.
