A raging house fire in Newark's Scottfield community on Thursday afternoon left one resident trapped inside until firefighters could free him. The Delaware State Fire Marshal reported additional details about the blaze, which was discovered on the 900 block of Linfield Road, just after 2 p.m., on September 6, 2018, hours after it was placed under control. Notably, an 80-year-old man living at the residence suffered smoke inhalation and thermal burns. He was reportedly cornered inside of the inferno, which had engulfed the entire front side of the structure, according to officials. After rescue personnel saved him from the burning structure, he was taken to Christiana Hospital, in Stanton, before his transfer to Crozer Medical Center, in Upland, Pennsylvania. He was last described to be in critical condition. Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, which held command at the scene, used assistance from other companies to contain the fire in just under an hour.
