Wilmington wants to add to the ranks of its police and fire departments.
Mayor Mike Purzycki told Delaware's Morning News that a resolution was approved by City Council recently to hold police and fire academies to attract new recruits. "We want our kids to be thinking of being a policeman, of being a firefighter," said Purzycki, "and so we're being especially aggressive this year, going into our high schools, going to our 20 year olds, and saying, "Here's something you should think about for a vocation."
The police academy is scheduled to start in February of next year. The opening date for the fire academy is expected to be announced shortly.
