Now that it is legal to set off fireworks on July 4th and New Years Eve, Wilmington City Council wants to the police and fire departments to educate the public on the dangers and risks of fireworks. "There were so many fireworks going off that people were feeling very nervous about the whole fireworks subject," said Harlee. Fireworks are legal to use in Delaware on July 4th and New Year's eve. You can also purchase them at stores 30 days prior to the use dates. Fireworks are prohibited in Delaware otherwise. Harlee sais residents in her district heard fireworks not only on July 4th, but also on the 3rd and 5th, which is illegal. She not only wants to promote safety, but for police to enforce infractions. Harlee says the fire chief is working on a plan and strategy to promote safe use of fireworks and sparklers.
