Wilmington's finest bested Wilmington's bravest 8-4 in the annual Wilmington Classic, but the money raised for the Andrew McDonough Foundation means nobody at the Skating Club of Wilmington lost.
Team captain for the Wilmington Police Department Tavis Miller scored a goal in the monster effort, and noted that even though the game is curved more towards puck handling so that everyone can function the next morning, it is still hockey.
"It was great. We raised money for a great foundation and we had a little bit of fun doing it, too. We really tried to put on a good show for the fans," said Miller. "But I got dropped once--I found out about gravity."
Miller's goaltender Adam Ringle faced wave after wave of firefighter shots and only managed to let four by in the victory. He was also very cognizant that the game itself is less about his stats than it is about doing something good for the community.
