Less than two years after his retirement as Polk County’s fire chief, David Cash is going back to work — this time as deputy fire chief for the city of Auburndale. He starts his new job Monday. Cash will step into the shoes of the former deputy chief, Brian Bradway, who was promoted to Auburndale fire chief after the retirement last month of the city’s former chief, Ronnie Hall. Cash, a lifelong resident of Lake Wales, started his firefighting career in 1973 as a volunteer with the Lake Wales Fire Department. In 1976, he was hired as a Polk County firefighter. He went through the ranks as an emergency medical technician, lieutenant, captain and deputy chief.
