Gainesville Fire-Rescue officials say extinguishing a house fire Sunday night was made difficult by hoarded items blocking doors and windows. Firefighters responded to the fire at 401 SE 6th Terrace around 11:15 p.m. The fire department says the first firefighters on the scene were unable to enter because of a large amount of materials stored in the home. "The normal pathways through the house were blocked with the owner's property, and the interior smoke and fire conditions were deteriorating, rapidly," the department said in a statement. "It appeared the fire had made access to the attic and was burning overhead."
