An elderly woman and her dog escaped their burning home in Quincy Monday afternoon. Quincy firefighters were called to the 400 block of Highland Avenue just before 5 p.m. When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames but the resident and her dog escaped unharmed, said Sgt. Anglie Hightower of the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office. It's unknown what ignited the fire, said interim Emergency Medical Services Director Andre Walker. As of 6 p.m., QFD was still fighting the fire. No other houses are being impacted, Walker said.
