While his peers in north Pinellas County have been retiring left and right, East Lake Fire Rescue Chief Tom Jamison is not planning to go anywhere any time soon.
Jamison, who joined ELFR in 1995 and was named chief in 2011, oversees a department that’s responsible for 33 square miles of unincorporated Pinellas County, including highways and waterways, and features three fire stations, each with a fully staffed engine; 41 employees, including 39 firefighters who are all at least EMS certified; a $150,000 rescue boat that was paid for by funds from the BP oil spill settlement; a water tanker; a brush truck; and a rapid-response dive team, the first of its kind in the county.
