Since being named Davie Fire Rescue’s chief two years ago, Fire Chief Julie Downey has kept her team busy. Between seeking grants that would benefit the department and taking part in national campaigns like Stop the Bleed — a program that shows bystanders how to control bleeds in an emergency situation before fire rescue arrives — it’s Downey’s projects that have her peers praising her. And now, they’re not the only ones. Last night, Davie Fire Rescue received word that the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association had named Downey as the 2018 Fire Chief of the Year. "I’m honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers!” Downey told the Sun Sentinel in a statement.
