Mexico Beach wants Bay County to take over the city’s fire department, saying the county could operate the service more efficiently.
“As you may be aware, the city of Mexico Beach has recently implemented a fire assessment,” Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey wrote in a letter dated May 17 to county commissioners. “In order to comply with the new Florida fire regulations and to avoid an undesirable 10 ISO rating, the city chose to abandon our long-established volunteer fire department. Addressing the deficiencies with our equipment and facilities became our top priority.”
