Lee County is under an extreme fire danger risk.
It’s the second driest county in the state.
Cape Coral is trying to make life safer for those who live there.
“Every 30 seconds a fire doubles in size. You think of a small fire, and it gets exponentially bigger,” said Cape Coral Division Chief Ryan Lamb.
Lamb said choosing where to build fire stations is like positioning chess pieces.
“As we continue to grow, we see some prolonged response times, and that's why we need more stations,” said Lamb.
Last week a fire tore through a garage in Northwest Cape Coral.
Angela Gell saw it happen.
“It was like flames, really big flames. I came outside, and the whole house was on fire," Gell said.
