The decision to allow a representative of the local firefighters union to discuss concerns members had about the fire chief was questioned Tuesday by two Ocala City Council members. On May 1, Robert Altman, president of the Professional Firefighters of Ocala, delivered a speech before the council expressing that union members do not believe Ocala Fire Chief Bradd Clark either has the citizens’ or firefighters’ safety as his first priority or that he is making decisions to advance the department’s mission. Altman said over a period of three days, 83 of the 90 eligible union members expressed their lack of confidence in the chief.
