After a home collapsed on three residents during a mock natural disaster, three fire rescue and EMS teams dug and cut through debris to find them and pull them to safety within a couple of hours.
This training scenario, which took place Wednesday at a vacated home along County Road 468 that will become part of The Villages’ future development, helped prepare fire rescue teams from District Public Safety, Sumter County Fire and EMS and Citrus County Fire and Rescue for a real life emergency.
It also was a display of how area fire departments are combining resources to better protect the community through public safety mutual aid agreements, said Robert Hanson, deputy chief of operations for Sumter CountyFire and EMS.
