A glitchy State Street Garage elevator is back in service after it broke down Tuesday night and trapped two people inside. Sarasota County Firefighters from Station Nos. 1 and 8 responded to the downtown garage located in the 1500 block of State Street at about 7:30 p.m. to find the elevator stuck between the first and second floor. Due to the distance from the second floor landing to the top of the elevator ladders were needed to reach the riders. They were lifted by a fire department special operations crew through the roof of the elevator car uninjured. City of Sarasota spokesman Jason Bartolone said the occupants were trapped inside the elevator compartment for about an hour.
