A big recycling facility in Lee County failed its second fire code inspection in the past several days. Bayshore firefighters gave a failing grade to MW Horticulture's North Fort Myers location on East Street last Wednesday and again today for code violations. This means the company isn't allowed to bring in any new materials. Fires have sparked in the large debris piles for the past year. Denise Houghtaling, MW Horticulture owner, said she believes her company is up to speed on the fire code. She believes it's a personal grudge against her by Bayshore firefighters and Lee County officials. “You know what the old saying is, throw good money after bad. And unfortunately, we are getting the impression that the fire department and the county just don’t want us here," Houghtaling said.
