Firefighters on Saturday were able to prevent most of a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s house from being totally destroyed by a fire. At 11:28 p.m. Saturday, Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Liberty Volunteer Fire Department firefighters and Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a structure fire on Pine Hill Drive. First responders arrived on scene to find heavy fire engulfing the second floor of the home. The second floor roof had partially collapsed onto the deck of the home, according to a press release. Firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the master bedroom and master bathroom where the fire originated. Fortunately, no residents were home at the time of the fire, Sheriff’s Office officials said. “I am proud of our men and women at Walton County Fire Rescue and the firefighters with DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Liberty Volunteer Fire Department” Sheriff Michael Adkinson said in a statement. “Their quick response and expertise helped save a large portion of our deputy’s home from severe damage.”
