During an award and promotion ceremony, the Panama City Fire Department created a new Hurricane Michael citation recognizing three members of the department. The chief also promoted one member of their crew to the rank of engineer. Chief Alex Baird says it was important to recognize those who sacrificed so much during the time of the storm. "It's unbelievable what they went through. All the time not knowing what was going on at their own homes. We had fire fighters lose homes. We had one fire fighter on duty whose wife called as the roof was being ripped off the house. They went out and answered the need of the community without answering their own family's needs." Once the ceremony wrapped up, members from all stations came together to surprise Chief Baird and Assistant Chief Gary Swerengin with a shadow box displaying every patch from the different stations.
