Marietta Fire Chief Jackie Gibbs is making personnel changes at the city’s fire department. The changes will affect the higher-ups, some of whom will have their positions disappear when they retire. They will be replaced with lower-ranking officers performing the same duties. Gibbs stressed that the changes will not affect the fire coverage residents receive or reduce the number of firefighters employed by the city, nor will it reduce the pay for those currently serving. “The important thing is that our fire department numbers and strength are exactly the same,” Gibbs said.
