Apparently, a new fire station is more than a building.
To restaurateur Debra Crawford-Simon, owner of Tasty Taste restaurant next door to the land set aside for College Park’s $2.1 million Fire Station 3, it is peace of mind that help is only steps away. “It will help my insurance as well,” Crawford-Simon said Feb. 1 after the facility’s groundbreaking ceremony at Highway 314 and Southampton Road, formerly the site of an electrical power substation. “It will help my day care next door. If I have an emergency, they can come right next door.”
But the larger picture also resonates with her.
“It’s not just about me,” Crawford-Simon said. “It’s about saving lives and protecting the community that we’re serving as well.”
