Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Shift Commander, Ryan McElwee, recently received his Fire Chief Certification at the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs Spring Executive Session in Savannah, GA on April 10th .
In order for an applicant to receive the certification, they must meet four pre-requisites including holding a Georgia Firefighter Stands and Training Council State Certification in at least one of the current fire service certifications and serving as a minimum of a Battalion Chief or Division Supervisor. According to McElwee, "This certification is earned based on a points system reflecting a
combination of education, experience, and years of service.
