On Tuesday, Augusta-Richmond County Commissioners heard from Augusta Fire Chief Chris James on the city's proposal to become Richmond County's emergency ambulance service zone provider.
Leaders approved creating the application to become the zone provider, which allows the City to set response times, how calls are dispatched, and cost for ambulance rides.
"If the City of Augusta is awarded the zone it can set response times, standards that will assure the proper number of ambulances are in service, to provide adequate response times to the citizens," says Chief Chris James.
The City will find out if this is approved this fall.
Chief James says is approved, this will not raise taxes next year to pay for the ambulance service.
