The Savannah Fire Department is hoping to expand its lessons on fire safety by bringing back its Fire Safety House. The house hasn't been used in years but will be back in the community soon. Firefighters used to take this mobile home out to different schools around the city to teach young children about fire safety. Earlier this year, Savannah Fire received a total of $20,000 from the Hartford Insurance Company to prevent residential fires. Savannah Fire partnered with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System to develop a program designed to teach children to take an active role in reducing fire risks in their homes.
