Fallen Henry County Fire Department Capt. “Chuck” Carter will be honored Saturday when his name is added to the memorial wall at the International Association of Fire Fighters in Colorado Springs, Colo. Carter, 49, of Hampton, died July 24, 2017, of occupational cancer. He served 24 years with HCFD and was an Army Reservist. His family, including his spouse, Melisa, and his daughter, Madison, will be joined in Colorado by three members of the Henry County Fire Department Honor Guard and IAFF Local 4052. His name will join 270 others this year from the United States and Canada who lost their lives in the line of duty. “The names etched on the granite walls tell a bigger story, one of a century of sacrifice and a fire service that has given so much to keep families, businesses and communities safe,” said Local 4052 President Wade Burch.
