Fire officials say an apartment fire early Wednesday morning in Hilo caused only “nominal” damage, according to a written statement. Four units responded to the 4:13 a.m. alarm at 271 Haili St., with the first arriving at 4:22 a.m. Arriving firefighters found light smoke coming from the eaves. The apartment was filled with smoke and flames were visible in the center of the room, which was charred because of the heat. The fire was reportedly extinguished at 4:30 a.m. No injuries were reported and no other units in the complex were damaged. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
