The Keauhou Ranch Fire is reportedly 86 percent contained as of Tuesday afternoon after fire crews secured fire lines on the edges of the blaze.
According to a Hawaii Volcanoes National Park news release, the fire’s size remains at 3,739 acres on the northeastern slopes of Mauna Loa. Thanks to cool weather and afternoon cloud cover, the fire remained low throughout Tuesday, helping firefighters improve their control over the fire. The fire was declared to be 80 percent controlled Tuesday morning.
Fire crews continued to secure a fire line on the fire’s northern edge. Crews also continued work on securing the southern edge of the blaze south of Kipuka Ki Special Ecological Area.
