Molokai firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a duplex in Kawela on Thursday afternoon that was extinguished by the resident, fire officials said.
At 2:20 p.m., Molokai firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the residential structure on Kamehameha V Highway, Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said.
When crews arrived on scene, they found the fire extinguished by the resident. Firefighters checked the scene to confirm that the fire was out, Yatsushiro said.
The unit was damaged by the fire but estimates were not available Friday afternoon, he said.
There were no injuries. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
