A woman and her 9-month-old daughter were killed in a Kaimuki fire this morning at a Honolulu Police Department officer’s home, officials and neighbors said. Firefighters responded to 733-A Luakaha St. at 8:09 a.m., brought the fire under control by 8:25 a.m. and extinguished it by about 9 a.m. Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant said the bodies of an adult and baby were found in the carport and the living room, respectively. Seguirant did not release any more information on the victims. Neighbors identified the deceased as Connie Moribe Wharton, 33, and daughter Sophia. HPD Lt. Nathan Wharton, the husband and father of the victims, was not home at the time of the fire. A police chaplain and HPD Deputy Chief John McCarthy were among the HPD officers who responded to the fire scene.
