A cooking fire was blamed for the blaze that damaged an apartment in Charles City late Wednesday. The Charles City Fire Department was called about 9:45 p.m. to a report of fire on the 2100 block of Clark Street. Crews found a blaze in the kitchen in an apartment on the top level of the complex, according to a Charles City Fire Department statement. No one was hurt. Firefighters put out the fire and then aired out the building. There was light smoke damage to the apartment, firefighters say. Investigators believe the blaze was caused by someone leaving a cooking fire unattended.
