Fire crews were called to a rural Altoona property Thursday night after a hay storage hoop building caught fire. The Pleasant Hill Fire Department says the blaze at 2291 NE 64th Street was reported around 7:50 p.m. Fire crews from Altoona and Pleasant Hill were called to the scene. After checking with the Polk County Air Quality Division and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, firefighters were given permission to let the fire burn itself out. The homeowner is monitoring the fire but officials say there isn’t any threat for it to spread.
