Davenport man pleads guilty to federal arson charge

A Davenport man will be sentenced Jan. 25 after admitting that he tried to burn or blow up a duplex he lived in with his girlfriend and her young child in March. Gramann R. Barnes, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of arson Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Davenport. The charge accuses Barnes of attempting to maliciously damage or destroy, by means of fire and explosive, any building, real and personal property used in any activity affecting interstate commerce. According to a federal complaint filed July 1: At 12:11 p.m. March 15, Davenport police and fire were called to the lower-level apartment of a duplex in the 600 block of East Locust Street in Davenport for a report of a domestic disturbance.
