Three firefighters will be OK after they were injured in a fire Wednesday, but a rural home has been left in ruins.
Though originally called in as a grass fire, the first Wapello County Rural firetruck to the 5500 block of Point Isabella Road saw there was a bigger problem; the residence was in danger.
A call for help brought in dozens of firefighters; they fought for hours, but it was a losing battle.
“The two biggest challenges were manpower and water,” said Tim Richmond, who is both a deputy fire chief for the county and the Wapello County Emergency Management coordinator.
