Firefighters respond to house fire near downtown Council Bluffs

Council Bluffs firefighters responded to a house fire near Lincoln Avenue and East Pierce Street at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Smoke was seen coming from the roof and windows of the structure. Firefighters said no one was home at the time the fire started. However, two dogs were believed to be inside. Firefighters rescued one dog who escaped without harm. As of this afternoon, the second dog was unaccounted for, firefighters said.
