VIDEO: A house fire Monday afternoon caused $20,000 in damage to an Iowa City home. Iowa City Fire Department crews were dispatched to 120 North Dodge St. at 4:48 p.m. where they found light smoke coming from the rear of the home, according to a release from the department. Firefighters found the fire in the first-floor living room and checked the house to make sure that the occupants made it out safely. Klaas Berkeley, the home's sole occupant, was safely outside by the time fire crews arrived. Berkeley said he came back from his class at the University of Iowa and found smoke billowing out the back door. "I came back and went to open my door and got a face full of pretty toxic smoke and decided probably should call the fire department," he said.
