It was like winning a shopping spree for the Des Moines Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Because of a $34,048 grant they recently received the department now has the ability to purchase protective clothing, known as bunker gear. A set of the gear costs $7,000 per firefighter. Helping to celebrate Friday afternoon was U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa). Following a tour of the fire department, Loebsack was shown what bunker gear was being used by the men currently.
