Steve Buser, a 17-year-veteran of the Ames Fire Department, died while on duty Friday. He was 51. Buser was found unresponsive by his coworkers in the workout room of Fire Station No. 2. He had suffered a medical emergency while working out alone, according to a news release from the city of Ames. The firefighter later died at Mary Greeley Hospital. According to the Ames Tribune, Buser and his crew had responded to a call Thursday around 7 p.m. and stayed after his shift to work out. Buser was found around 9:30 a.m. Friday. "The entire Ames Fire Department is grieving Steve's passing," said Deputy Fire Chief Rich Higgins in a statement.
