Bettendorf will be the first Scott County city to begin the process of curbing fireworks use. Its City Council will vote Tuesday on the first reading of an ordinance that imposes stricter restrictions on their discharge. The ordinance, which will be similar to ones enacted in Scott County and Davenport, will limit use to three days over the year. After discussion over the summer, the three governing bodies came to a consensus to limit use on July 3 and 4 from 2-11 p.m. and December 31 from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. "From a consumer fireworks standpoint, setting forth the three dates for use was key and something we worked with Davenport on coming to an agreement on," City Attorney Chris Curran said during Monday's committee-of-the-whole.
