A massive fire destroyed an old vacant church in Red Oak Monday afternoon. Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce tells KSOM/KS95 News firefighters were dispatched to 611 East Coolbaugh at around 4:00 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the vacant church. “The arriving engine reported heavy smoke coming from the building,” stated Chief Bruce. “Fire Fighters attempted an interior attack from the front doors and encountered a massive fire at which point they had to switch to a defensive operation and had to fight the fire from the outside.” Chief Bruce says ultimately magnitudes of agencies were called in to assist due to the massive size of the building.
