Thanks to donations from several sources, Newton Firefighters are now able to use a low temperature 100-degree sauna and two massage chairs. Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik says the new sauna recently installed in the exercise facility will help in the detoxification of firefighters after exposure to dangerous chemicals during fires. The sauna utilizes infrared heat. Wellik says it has other benefits, such as lowering blood pressure and inducing better sleep. The 5-thousand dollar cost of the sauna comes from recent donations totaling 13-thousand 716-dollars. A majority of that sprung from this spring’s Citizen’s Fire Academy.
